ABOUT US

Ardwell Community Kirk is a beautiful Edwardian sandstone building in the small village of Ardwell 10 miles south of Stranraer in stunning South West Scotland.

After the Church of Scotland ceased holding services at Ardwell, a decision was taken in 2015 to form a Trust and continue to use the building for religious and non-religious services, weddings, funerals and community events.

An active committee is now arranging a wide and varied programme of events throughout the year – including the very popular ‘Carols by Candlelight’ – and services continue to be held in this lovely building.

With its picturesque interior and traditional aisle Ardwell Community Kirk is a popular venue for happy couples wanting to be married, or have their unions blessed, in an enchanting rural setting.  There is also an option to have photographs taken in the gardens of Ardwell House, just a short walk away.

Ardwell Community Kirk can seat up to 220 guests and is perfect for both smaller and larger weddings.  As it is now non-denominational it is available for marriages of all beliefs as well as for civil ceremonies. The Kirk is also available for hire for a variety of community and corporate events.

We are grateful to Viv Smith and Third Sector in Stranraer for their help and advice and to Kenneth Paterson from Rankin & Aitken Solicitors, who has worked pro bono for the Trust.
